What is an Inspiration ?
Let me explain the term "inspiration" in design process for design aspirants.
The term Inspiration can't be explained as definition but it can be experienced once you understand the process of exploration. It is a process of being mentally stimulated to create something new and original in design. It is the process of learning to identify the things which appeal and stamp on your mind, Start finding the elements or colours or forms or shapes which you found interesting. If it is a shape, try to draw that shape with minimal lines and convert the shape into motif. Modify it as per the subject you think it suits. If you are a textile designer then there are enormous options to explore the possibilities as surface patterns from single inspiration. Also it is necessary and daily practice for fashion or accessory designer to enhance himself or herself as designer to begin with. It helps to create your own style instead of getting habitual to use Google references with minute changes. Which illegal and you may face copyright issues. So beware of and take it on serious note for all the way to go.
We, Indians are blessed with a rich Indian heritage art. India has cultural diversity as per state. If we decide to study to explore all monuments or Indian heritage, as single life span is not enough to explore. We are also blessed by three seasons and each season displays different colour palette. So the nature is the best inspiration source for us. Different natural geological scapes, carvings of ancient Indian art, traditional decorative art forms and many more sources are abudently available for us. It is only the understand the way of conversion into new forms and patterns through your own skills and creativity.
While working as a professional designer I came across many buyers and clients of International market. Couple of times the client provides an inspiration board. Professional forcast agencies prepare these boards. It includes forcast colour palette, So you are supposed to take an inspiration from the board itself.
But many times client gives you the season details for the next collection to launch. Then it is your talent to achieve and fulfill the thirst of client and end users. When you practice for years you realise the strength within you. Whether you are best in creativity or you are best in creating forcast designs. And if are best in both then no one can stop to hook the market. And I used the word "best" not good, because only the best deserves in the crowd. The clients has an eye to pick up the best and has deep knowledge to cater for the consumer. I have created many new styles and they have been set as a forcast trends in prastigious textile fairs like Heimtex, Print source, Prima Vision etc. Ofcourse it requires more n more to practice with wide knowledge, abilities and passion to create new every day.
